David M. Galvin Jr.
After graduating high school, I began working at South Miami Hospital as a transporter, meanwhile attending Miami Dade College where I completed the prerequisite courses to become an EMT/Paramedic to enter the Fire academy.
After completing my EMT/ Fire requirements, I transferred to the ER at South Miami Hospital, where I served as an Emergency Room Tech, assisting in life-saving procedures. In 2008, while working in the hospital, I met my now wife Melissa. I waited for years to get hired as a firefighter, but as more time passed, my wife encouraged me to return to school and pursue my Nursing Degree.
While in nursing school I received a call from the City of Miami Fire Department to begin the hiring process. It was a bittersweet predicament, and after much consideration, I ultimately decided to put a pause on my nursing career and pursue my dream of becoming a Firefighter. After 11 years as a firefighter, I can honestly and wholeheartedly say that I made the right decision. I have the best job in the world. My education and practical training in both the medical field and as a firefighter have provided me the opportunity to also be a Professor at Miami Dade College for first responders/EMT/Paramedic.
I Married Melissa, the love of my life. We have two beautiful children, girl/boy twins who are 8 years old, and our other 3 babies, our dogs, Nala, Cinderella, and Max. I wear many hats, both professionally and personally, but my favorite roles are being a husband to my loving wife and best friend, and a father to our two amazing kids. My family is my whole world. I wouldn’t change a thing about them. God has truly blessed my life in so many ways. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all at our 20 year Reunion!
